More About P&O Ferries

For years the name of P&O has been synonymous with luxury sea travel. P&O Ferries is now the leading ferry operator in the UK with a massive fleet of 32 ships and offers across a wide selection of routes. Since October 2002, P&O Ferries is the new brand name for services previously known as: P&O Stena Line (Dover route), P&O Portsmouth (Portsmouth routes) and P&O North Sea Ferries (Hull routes). Wherever you go with P&O Ferries, you can expect a very special service and it is easy to see that their plan is to keep their passengers happy and keep them coming back to P&O Ferries whenever they need to take their car abroad.

P&O Ferries has invested over £400 million to create a fleet of the fastest, most modern ferries for the Dover to Calais route and operates a round-the-clock schedule of up to 23 return sailings every day, that's a crossing almost once every hour. Crossing time is approx. 90 minutes and P&O are proud of the superior onboard experience they offer onboard modern ships which include the state-of-the-art ferries Spirit of Britain and Spirit of France. Pets can travel on board the ferries, but need to remain in your car.

For many people in the UK, P&O Ferries is the first choice for travel to Europe, with a variety of crossings throughout the day to choose from. P&O Ferries’ wide range of destinations makes it easy to explore France and the rest of Europe all year round! The Dover to Calais route allows you to come and go as you please; with a short crossing time of only 90 minutes and up to 46 crossings a day, it is a quick and easy way to reach Europe. There is more choice when you step on board too. You can relax in the lounges and bars, dine in the restaurants and cafés or go bargain-hunting in the onboard shop. For those travelling with children, the Family Lounge offers a child-friendly area for them to play while you enjoy panoramic sea views with a delicious Starbucks® coffee.

P&O also offer a route connecting Scotland with Northern Ireland: the Cairnryan to Larne route runs up to 7 sailings a day and is the fastest ferry crossing between Northern Ireland and Scotland. Sit back and enjoy the benefit of free WiFi in the tranquility of the Club Lounge, visit the onboard store, or dine in the Food Court. As on the Dover-Calais route, pets can travel on board the ferries, but need to remain in your car.

For connections from Britain to the Republic of Ireland, try P&O's Liverpool to Dublin route, an easy way to travel between the two great cities and a fantastic way to start your Ireland adventure. Daytime and Overnight sailings are available, with a journey time of around 8 hours.

On the North Sea, P&O Ferries operates two routes. The nightly Hull to Rotterdam service features the ships Pride of Hull and Pride of Rotterdam, two of the largest ships in the P&O Ferries fleet, each at 59,925 tonnes and designed to offer the highest standards in passenger service, accommodation and comfort. Journey time is 10 hours. While on the Hull to Zeebrugge route, the Pride of York and Pride of Bruges operate each night with a crossing time of 12½ hours.

Across the fleet, on board services and facilities are well developed, and continue to be improved, based on elements of the Brand World concept pioneered on the Dover to Calais fleet in recent years. These include a range of eateries from full waiter service to self-service restaurants, a choice of seating and lounge areas, video arcade with all the latest and the best in video game technology and on board shopping.

On longer duration sailings, P&O Ferries offers a variety of entertainment for all ages. The program varies from ship to ship, season to season and on the route, however, P&O Ferries provide a choice from top cabaret acts, live music, hot disco shows, latest cinema films, casinos, to live entertainment for kids and child playrooms especially designed for small children. In fact, the entertainment is so good that many passengers tell P&O Ferries is one of their main reasons for travelling with them.

In recent years P&O Ferries has received major industry awards including "Best Ferry Company" and "Favourite Ferry Company" and "Consumer Award" at the Globe Travel Awards, along with "Best Ferry Minicruise Operator" at the British Travel Awards.

Please note: P&O Ferries no longer operate the Western Channel routes from Portsmouth to Le Havre, Portsmouth to Cherbourg or Portsmouth to Caen, or the Northern Spain route Portsmouth to Bilbao.
